Heritage Fair

The girls each worked super hard on their heritage fair projects.
I love seeing what they do come together and watch them present it to their peers and instructors.
E did Coastal Native and K a lengthy Enbridge project.

So proud of our young ladies!!

Heritage Fair/Day Trip

K wanted to go to the next level with her heritage fair project.
Although she was unable to compete due to registration issues, she blew the competition away and is thrilled to compete next year.
What an amazing experience for her.

Then we toured Port Alberni and enjoyed the hot sunshine we seem to be missing here.

                                                                    Life is good!!!

Schooling with the Sun

Having bright and sunshiney days nakes schooling at the kitchen table difficult for us all.
So i have taken it outside for the past week.
From solar prints and a sundial.

To shadow tracing,

Solar oven building,

and sun tea making.

Great schooling I think!!

Sunshine, Kids and Dogs

Salt Crystals

We used a strong salt solution and let these crystals grow (dry) in a dish.
I love that the girls can see each solid formation and get  a real sense of what it is we pour out of the salt shaker.
Kitchen science rocks!!

Stalagmites and Stalactites

Using a heavy solution of epsom salt and water that we died blue, we watched these stalactites grow.
Every time they'd get long enough to look at and photograph a kid would accidentally knock it off.
This si the only one i managed to get.
Its a great little experiment, please don't judge it by these photos.

Home Studies

Our home facilitator came for her term meeting today.
The girls get so excited for her to come over, they love her as she really pays attention and is sincerely interested in their work.
Nobody else really takes that sort of time to really see what they do.

Poor teacher spent nearly 3 hours looking through school work, lapbooks, artwork, homemade movies and photos.

The girls have worked so hard this term and they should be proud of themselves.

They got some real special time in with her, sharing and showing off.

I love being able to revisit all our work throughout the term.
Then it all gets put into boxes and stored in the crawlspace, making room for the new stuff to come.

Feet Drawing

In my quest to always keep my girls creative and their brains working I stuck them on the task of drawing with their feet.
They thought I was nuts, until they realized just how hard it was.
Great lesson in empathy and appreciation for those who have had to live with no arms.
I re-inforced the lesson some great and inspiring videos on youtube.

Oldie!!

An old friend posted this pic on Facebook last week.
I was transported back in time.
I have very few photos of me, and even rarer of me in high school.
I am about 15 here, helping with a kids carnival we hosted at our school.
I am thrilled to have this.
My girls love it too.
