Birthday Cake

My dear friend had a birthday last month and I made this sweet little orange cream cake.
It was my first attempt at ombre fondant and it worked quite well.
K wants her cake this way this year.

Jelly Roll

Im pretty sure hubby is thrilled that K is in the kitchen because she makes so many things that i would never allow.
She made this sponge cake jelly roll all on her own and even cleaned most of the mess up herself.

She loves being able to find any recipe and just make it.

Too bad i'm raw because that sure looked good.

Big Girl in the Kitchen

K is in the kitchen all the time.
She finds recipes online or in a magazine, even flips through my tattered cookbooks.
She has a real knack for flavours and is really great at taking on even the harder cooking concepts, such as double boiling, separating eggs, folding in egg whites and  making a rue.

I am a bit in shock to have someone else in my kitchen space, moving things and running things low.
I have to be extra careful when making the grocery lists now.
I have to admit Dad is the happiest because K cooks a loot of treats!!

But she also makes lots of beauty products too.
Lip balms, solid perfumes and face masks to name a few.

My little Diva!!

Real Popcorn

I love the farmers market and wish I was able to get there more often.
Last week we grabbed a popping corn.
Since we only ever use a hot air popper, these a the real deal.
The bomb!!
Kids loved to hands on part and they thought it tasted way better than the store bought stuff.
Im so happy for that,
Thank you, all the farmers that work so hard so we can eat healthy!!

Deep Frying the Turkey

Brining the turkey is vital to a great tasting dinner.
This year we tried a new brine with oranges and herbs galore.
This is at least the 5th bird we've done this way and we convert some sceptic every time.
There's quite an art to it and if you don't do it correctly you can end up with some serious injuries or a projectile turkey.
Look it up on youtube!!!

Hubby set up outside, far from the house.
It was a cold, cold afternoon but that didn't effect the cooking time.
I love that the oven and kitchen are free for cooking all the other delicious stuff.

Apples Galore

Our little apple tree were completely laden with apples but with such a cold, slow start to the season they didn't mature to hardly half there normal size.

That's ok though, they still were used up.
Made into delicious apple sauce of course.

And there were pies and crisps and the obligatory dried apples too.

Thanksgiving

K spent hours paper macheing up this special cornucopia centrepiece for our family dinner.
I love how it turned out.
It will be in our family for years to come.

We spent hours preparing out favourite foods on new and exciting ways.
We hosted outside and it was a perfect fall day/evening to do so.
The weather has been just dreamy as of late.

The girls and I made an apple print table cloth for the buffet table.
Another treasure for years to come.

The girls got these branches and put them in a jug.
Then cut out leafs for our guests to fill out and attach to the "tree".

Reading them afterwards was such a treat.
I love how creative my girls are becoming on their own.

This dessert was something I saw and had to try.
A sort of tres leche cake/pumpkin cake.
OMG!!
Our new Thanksgiving goody!

And E had to carve a pumpkin.
There was no way around it.
She had this in mind and was able to cut it herself, after she cleaned it all out and saved the seeds.
Ok....I have to say how proud I am.
This was a perfect day to be thankful for so many things.

Here Fishy Fishy

Happy young lady holding the prize of the weekend.

When the boys got home with all the salmon and halibut we had some processing to do.

And always looking for a moment to teach/learn, I took advantage of these fish to have a whole lesson for the girls, hillbilly style.

Warning!! Boob Cake

Started the afternoon with a project for a friends stag party on the weekend.
His fiance, an incredibly amazing lady if I do say so myself, asked me to help make him a naughty cake.

Ran into problems at the beginning with crappy pans for the tata's but with the magic of butter cream icing I made it work just fine.

It was quite a bit of fiddling around initially but super fun non the less!
Now I can add it to my cake resume.

After the fondant (pictures courtesy my eldest lady) I had to make a pattern for the bra.

I used sugar paper in zebra but I really didn't like it at all, but was committed at that point, so it stayed.
But never again.

SO what do you make for a redneck hunter for his stag?
A set of boobies in a camo shirt with a pearl and Browning logo necklace.

Hope he likes it.
They are going camping way out in the back 40 and have to boat in and stuff.
Bringing this cake along must have been a real treat! heehee.
