Business 101

Today we embarked on a small entrepreneurial project.
K has been learning a lot about money.
What it takes to make it and the value it holds in the world, and her wallet.

We have had Lemonade stands before but not quite like this.
K had to organise and gather all that she needed to sell her wares.
She needed a plan and money to start up.

I explained and showed her about start up costs and variables, in this case spills (and little sisters.)
We made a chart to tally up things and to chart later on.
She had a float and was ready to sell.

Little sister had to have her taste first and got right to work.
She wouldn't except payment "in dirt" but would work for lemonade.

As K set up, E got right to work with her sign and started riding back and forth on the road to attract customers.
K decided after a while that she too needed to do her part to get people to flock to her stand and buy, buy, buy.

On this cool and blustery morning sales weren't as good as K had hoped.
We had a snack and waved at the cars going by.
Her eagerness was delightful.
After an hour attentions started to wain.
The girls started to find other things to keep them occupied.
This bike kite from a chair bag was a hit, for a few minutes.

The kids were playing around at the beach and I got some interesting looks from people driving by as I sat manning the station solo.
Boy what they must have thought.
After an 1 1/2 hours, a bit chilly and no sales other than from me, E went on strike and K decided we needed to find a better location and wait for better weather.

No profits recorded today.
Rather the opposite.
$2.25 in the red.
Lessons learned and quality time spent on a Saturday morning.
Another reason why I love homeschooling.
