Matisse- The Snail

Henri Matisse created some great works through out his lifetime.
The Snail is, in my opinion, not his most remarkable.
However it is a fabulous piece that is neat for children to replicate.

Today we spent some time talking about Henri's life and looking through a collection of his work.
Then we put scissors to paper and glue to paper to re-created his collage.

I am in awe at how wonderfully she was able to do this, and the fact she got the colours, positions and sizing quite accurate.

E at the age of 4 had a great grasp on this one.
She really found it fun to do and was super excited at her ability to cut and paste to make "great" art.

I loved watching her intensness, unwavering for 20 some minutes.

I see great works in her future as she develops more skills with new and different mediums.

  1. I am learning about Matisse at school and I think that a lot of his cut-out are just as amazing, if not more amazing, than his paintings. He is a real artist.
