Tomato Cage Lantern

I made some really neat yard lanterns yesterday and had to share them with you.
I got this idea from the Make Grow Gather blog.
Her tutorial is great.

It was quick to make as I had everything on hand, so using some organic muslin I had hanging out in my fabric piles and a few old tomato cages, away I went.

I had hoped the kids would get into it and create some great works of art and add some fabric appliques but it was not to be.

I had fun though.

I mixed some glue and water to make a bath for the pre-measured and cut fabric.

Soaked and rung out the fabric and draped it over the cages.

Using clothes pins to hold it in place till they dried, I then hung them on the clothes line using more pins.
With this sunny summer weather they were dried in about 2 hours.

Of course I had to sneak out late last night to get a photo of the finished product and I am pleased.
They will be a great addition to a yard party that goes on late into the night.
I can see many more in my future, in various sizes and assorted fabrics as the lights from the candles will really play up any colours.
The potentials are endless and I think they would make great gifts for some outdoorsy friends.
The kids interest has been peaked once they seen the finished product.
