Essentially it is a plastic that you decorate and put in the oven to create mini tags, decoration and such.
Sounds like a nifty idea but they are toting this "novel" idea at over $6.
Really!!!!
Plastic for 6 bucks???
Hey I remember doing that to small chip bags and wearing them on my zippers as a kid.
So I considered that it must be feasible to do to just about any plastics.
I set out to my recycling box and pulled out a collection of 1,2,5, and 6 plastics.
I cut them up, we drew on them and I fired them into the oven at 300 degrees.
3 or so minutes later, cool little pieces of plastic.
I love this idea.
And best of all it was free.
I set them together with a glue gun and can definately see that if I were to put some thought into this I could create some pretty cool things.
So this particular piece is nothing really to awe over but it is a sure fire fun way to spend some time crafting and recycling with the kids.
Speaking of novel ideas.
I saw the other day, and then set out to research, re-usable produce bags.
Not an entirely new concept but one I haven't really seen take hold yet, in this new bring your own bag, reduce the waste push as of late.
I decided that I would make myself some and these are what I came up with.
They may not be glamorous but definitely a must for me.
Tulle is light weight so as to not tip the scales against me at the register, comes in great many of colours, and is super easy to sew.
I made 8 from one meter in under a half an hour and the fabric was only $1.50.
I decided not to use a fastener or ribbon, and that if i really needed one it would mainly be for bulk nuts etc and I will just have to use a tag from the store that I can write on.
I am very happy with the ones I have made and know that I will be making a wide range of sizes to accommodate all the produce and such we end up having to buy from the grocery.
If anybody would like some made for them just let me know and we will work it out.
K had a vision and drew it out and I have had to make it from this sketch.
I must teach her how to make patterns soon....as this is rather interesting to accomplish.
But I have to report so far so good and she is happy with the progress I have made today.
I will post the final product, which if she has her way will be tomorrow morning.
We'll see.
Embroidering in the garden is sort of cliche and romantic, as the breeze rustles the threads in my tattered tin, wiping a scent of near by flowers under my nose as I listen to the distant birds chirping a love song to each other.
Still working on the basic stitches but it is coming along beautifully.
