Hooked on Technology

I love to read.

It wasn't always the way.

I remember as a youth doing my thing being wild, crazy and full of teen-aged angst, it would tear me up to have to read a book for a report.

I was a pro at Cliff notes and skim reading and would fancy up the assignment with craftiness to wow them with my BS instead of my brilliance.

As an adult by some strange occurrence I have become an insatiable reader, often having 3-5 on the go at once.

When I was single without kids and had all the free time in the world I worked and played but never indulged in any reading.

Ironically now that I have kids and have settled in my ways I find reading my solitude.

My escape.

I actually crave it and am on a constant lok out for any books to add to my library.

BUT......

I recently purchased an iPod touch and I am hooked on/to it.

I have become converted.

I have even gone so far as to listen to a book....yes really!!!

And I admit is was kind of nice to close my eyes and be in another world listening to a voice read, smooth and crisp, the words that I could have read myself but felt intregued to try.

Not something I would do often but I do see why children love it so much.

I have been downloading fun apps, that have become a great distraction tool for the kids.

I have found fabulous speeches and lectures at iTunes U(niversity) and so many brain stimulating shows etc. that I have never tapped into before.

Many are even great for the kids to listen to.

I can listen as I put the kids down for the night with no interference as they are unaware that I am even plugged in.

We do not have cable and I seldom get the chance to watch a movie anymore, but now tucked into my bed I can watch any show I like (of course at a cost) and catch up on all those shows I keep hearing about.

There are so many free things to access that I feel that I am getting every dollar worth for my impulsive purchase.

As for my books and Kobo,.... well I still need time to grow tired of this frivolous contraption.

I better think up some creative ways to hide it in bed when hubby gets out of camp, like maybe getting him his own!!!
