Circle Of Life

What is cuter than a day old chick?
Not much!!
Their little chirps and cheeps.
The way they nestle in and their little feet scratching at you.

Then as they grow they become gangely and awkward.
They squawk and are humorously demanding for food and attention.

E can never get enough of any of our animals.
They all have to endure her charming, over zealous love.
Both the girls love the farm life, knowing full well whatthe fate of each animal is.
When asked they will tell anyone what happens to the animals.
Most people snicker and say they could never do what we do.
I am not saying it is always easy and it is a lot of work and commitment but the rewards are far reaching and, well honestly, much better tasting.

The girls are always so helpful with the animals, even naming most of them
Except when it comes to cleaning the pens.

But as the animals, in this case chickens, grow they are unaware of their fate.
This one seems to have an idea as she sees her food taken away for the final night.
The girls give them one last cuddle and say goodbye.
Then early in the morning, before he goes to work, J piles then into crates and drives them to the farm.
A few hours later the girls and I go and bag them and bring em to their new home....the freezer.
It can be cruel sounding but it is a reality for all of us carnivores.
We are just lucky enough to know exactly everything about our birds and their whole life/food cycle.
Not many people can say that about their food.
And does this face look upset?
K manned the camera while I worked.
She got some great shots.

Any guesses on what the girls wanted for dinner?
Ironically, on the other hand I couldn't stomach eating them on the first day.
I can still she their eyes.
It will be about a week till I can.
Funny eh?

Now our third freezer is full and waiting for the pig this week and cow next month.
That's farm life.
